Trustworthy AI principles

OECD: keep people and accountability in the picture.

Use principles to frame the questions an organization should answer, then turn those questions into practice.

A broader starting point

The OECD AI Principles provide an international reference for trustworthy AI. They help frame conversations about the effects of AI on people and society alongside technical performance. They are a useful educational starting point for readers who need to understand why governance extends beyond cybersecurity.

Ask what a principle changes

A statement about accountability should lead to a named decision owner. A statement about transparency should lead to a decision about what users need to know. Take one principle and ask which process, interface, or review would be different if the organization followed it seriously.

Include people who bear the consequences

Teams building a system may understand its intended benefits better than the difficulties it creates for others. Consider accessibility, the ability to challenge outcomes, and the availability of a non-automated route. Document whose perspective informed the design and where information is missing.

From principles to evidence

For a fictional internal assistant, accountability could mean a business owner, a documented release decision, and an escalation route. Each is inspectable. Principles guide the questions; local evidence shows how an organization answered them. Pair that work with technical tests and any applicable regulatory analysis.

Try this with a familiar use case

Choose a document assistant or an AI feature your team understands. Read one of the official resources below, write down a question it raises, and identify the local evidence needed to answer it. Keep your own interpretation separate from the source’s stated requirements.
